In Jesus’ day, there were two main political parties which ran
The Sadducee's Party
The Sadducee's Party was the progressive liberal party of that day (as it were). This group held the chief position of power by controlling the office of chief priests and the High Priest’s office (Acts 4:1-3, 5:17). The Sadducee's are identified - in the Holy Scriptures - by their ideological position of fully rejecting the prophetic prophesy of the Old Testament and the resurrection of the dead (Mark 12:18, Acts 23:8). The Sadducee's also rejected the existence of Almighty God’s higher intelligences (i.e., angelic hosts) and were greatly opposed to the Pharisees, which held a more fundamental adherence to the Law and the resurrection (Acts 23:6-8). When it came to these fundamental issues these two parties were polar opposites.
The Sadducees practiced and propagated a godless and secular Judeo theory (an evolutionary theory as it were) that there was NO after life or FINAL judgment or accountability to Almighty God in death (Mark 12:18, Acts 23:8, Heb 9:27). It is wise to take note that whenever any people or nation hold to this kind of godless philosophy a, “Macavellian, Do as thou wilt” philosophy expect to find these individuals only to be pleasure seekers, ruthless and cruel task masters to any people (Psalm 14:1-3, Rom. 3:10-23, 2 Tim. 3:1-7). For such are they who seek to obtain the godless pleasures of this "little" life to their full excess. That is why NO laws or restraint will ever hold them back from achieving all that their sinful and corrupt heart desires (Eccl. 2, Rom. 1:18-32, 2 Tim. 3:1-7, Jude 1:10-13). These deceive themselves and reap for themselves the whirlwind in the Day of Wrath (Rev. 20:11-15). Jesus’ greatest rebuke to the Leftist Sadducee's of His day was, “Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?” (Mark 12:24)
