David
“God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us…” — 1 John 3:16
Agapē is the love God always reveals, demonstrates, and shows; Christ models; and believers are commanded to live out toward one another.
Love among believers is not optional—it is a defining mark of discipleship.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you…” — John 13:34–35
“Let brotherly love continue.” — Hebrews 13:1
Jesus grounds our love for one another in His own sacrificial love.
True agapē love is the fruit of being born of God, not mere human effort.
“Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” — 1 John 4:7
“Love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again…” — 1 Peter 1:22–23
Because believers share the same new life in Christ, agapē binds them together.
Biblical love is demonstrated, not merely spoken.
“Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2
Agapē willingly bears cost for the good of others.
Love is the spiritual glue that holds the church together.
“Eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” — Ephesians 4:2–3
“Above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” — Colossians 3:14
Without love, unity fractures—even when doctrine is correct.
Agapē responds to sin and weakness with mercy, not retaliation.
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” — 1 Peter 4:8
“Be kind to one another… forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” — Ephesians 4:32
This does not excuse sin—but seeks restoration.
Love outlasts gifts, knowledge, and earthly accomplishments.
“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” — 1 Corinthians 13:13
“If I have all faith… but have not love, I am nothing.” — 1 Corinthians 13:2
Agapē is the measure of spiritual maturity.
Our love for fellow believers becomes a testimony to unbelievers.
“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” — John 13:35
“We love because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19
The church shines brightest when it loves deeply.
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. (Mark 1:17)
